Slumming with Mum

Those who follow my blogs and tweets (and various other hoots, chirps and hollers) know that I wasn't exactly the biggest fan of Slumdog Millionaire. Actually, if I remember my exact words during Oscar Run time, I HATED it. But I've been fascinated as the soap opera of the flick's child stars and their families unfolds in the news.

The latest in the saga leaves these unexpected little movie stars homeless. (Hard to believe, given the worldwide attention they've received that this chain of events has even played out this way.)

But I think I may have an idea. A certain somebody who has been trying to adopt and rescue all of the children in the impoverished parts of the world has recently run into some troubles adopting. No, not Angelina Jolie. I'm speaking of the ultimate mega superstar mama.

So let me make the formal introductions.

Ahem, Kids, meet your new mega superstar mom, Madonna.

Madonna, meet the kiddies.

The Ultimate Trek Team

For my Star Trek fans out there, old and new (those who call themselves trekkies, those who call themselves trekkers and those who just like a good pop culture poll!) The time to speak up and be counted has arrived...

USA Today is assembling the ultimate Star Trek crew and they want your input, people.

How's Your Brain Leaning Today?

I've always wondered if I'm more left-brain or right-brain. After all, I'm a writer...analytical, logical and mathematical, yet I consider myself a visually-driven processor of info and creative. So which is it?
I decided to find a good test out there and diagnose myself. After finding plenty of duds, I finally found one that poses some interesting questions to determine your right-brain vs. left-brain ratio, and frankly, the results for me were right on the money. (I'm 57%Left-Brained; 43%Right-Brained, BTW.)

Have fun, my webbie friends!

Bono: The New Barbara Walters?

If you're as much a longtime fan of U2 as I am, then I'm sure you were amused at the thought of Bono, the interviewer, unveiled recently on CNN's AC360 as he posed questions to apparent friend and hero George Clooney, always fascinating, funny, and yes, yummy, too.
I do believe we have one of the most unusual albeit engrossing interviews I've watched in a while, though I do think Bono does everything but polish George's shoes during this bizarre yet revealing interview. He seems about as gooey and doe-eyed as I might be in the hot seat. Must be a man-crush.

Enjoy, fellow Bono fans and Clooney groupies.

Idol Update for David Cook Fans

For any of my fellow Idol fans and tweeps out there, I'm sure you heard the sad news that Adam Cook, brother of last year's Idol winner David Cook has died after a long battle with brain cancer late Saturday night, May 2.

The American Idol 8 winner addresses his fans at his own Web site in a new blog entry and says that the bulk of his concert schedule won't be impacted as his brother would have wanted it that way.

Deepest condolences to the singer and his family...

Weekend Fun with the Kuhns

Well, well, well. Another Monday arrives and I must say that spending time with the vacationing hubby for this whole past week was spectacular. I of course have been on permanent furlough since early April, but even I felt like I was truly on vacation as we had a chance to both tackle some fun home projects and still feel like we were on vacation.

Friday, we took our big road trip to the World Golf Hall of Fame. Cool place.

They have a special Bob Hope exhibit that runs through the rest of the year and we found the actual hall of inductees quite interesting.
If you ever want a makeover, get inducted here. Check out Karrie Webb before.

And after.

They're pretty kind to their inductees, don't you agree?

We enjoyed a delicious lunch at Bill Murray and brothers' Caddyshack (for me, the yummy hack salad minus the turkey and bacon but with extra bleu cheese and eggs!)
Lar met up with the restaurant's "mascot." We're not the biggest Gator fans but something about a man in a skirt just compels me to take a photo. Hmmm....

Then it was off to the PGA 18-hole putting course where I scored - ahem - a hole in one on hole #9 (woohoo) but still went on to be sorely beaten by the final hole.

After resting on the bench lakeside enjoying the breeze and the lovely scenery, we hit the road again for the three-hour trip home through such hustling and bustling cities as Interlachen and Palatka (yep, I never heard of them either). But it was a fun adventure and best of all, the old wall map in the fitness room gets one more sticker marking yet another sports hall of fame that we've tackled.

Let's see: we've done football, basketball, baseball, bowling, hockey (well, I have) and now golf. What's next? Tennis? Figure skating? Shuffleboard?Hmmm...
On Saturday, our favorite visitors stopped by the house to celebrate (a little early) Lar's upcoming birthday.

Opening gifts, enjoying some Mexican munchies and just hanging out with the kids was fun as always. Great company, great food and delightful conversation. And the cool baseball, music and TV-themed books were a hit.

Brandon tried to pull a fast one on his dad foregoing his usual look with a mohawk. After we picked up Lar's jaw from the ground, he explained it was just for the day, he'd be returning to his usual shaved head cut.

Deacon, my grandson (yep, older hubby+older stepkids=stepson), is five and a bundle of energy. I mean a lot of it. Then, add about 5 chocolate chip cookies and an Iced Tea and you've got one supercharged little fella. Tuckered out this 39-year-old, who doesn't need much to get tuckered out these days.

What a week, what a weekend. A reminder of what's really important in life.

Take a few moments to remind yourself today of what and who matter most to you. Make the best of your Monday!

Peace,
Cankuhn

The Woes of the Wealthy

In these days of furloughs, layoffs and foreclosures, the wealthy are simply feeling too guilty to buy luxury items.

Awww, sniffle-sniffle.

Somehow I'm just not feeling the sympathy here that these folks might feel they deserve. Now get out there, Bloomberg, and buy a damn Ferrari.
