Welcome to the Club, Cal and Tony!

Today is the day when two of baseball's classiest, most talented players in recent years get inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame...and it's how we'll be spending our Sunday afternoon!

Over 70,000 people have attended the ceremony (more than ever before) and I don't think that's a coincidence. These guys are what the sport should be about. Hard work, devotion to your team, the cause to win and the craft, and integrity both on the field and off.

Congrats, Cal! Great job, Tony! Can't wait to see your busts in person on our next trek to Cooperstown.

I've already asked my hubby if we can drive up for the big ceremony when my favorite baseball player of all time, Greg Maddux, gets inducted. Of course, he has to retire first (no hurry, Greg!)He said "sure."

You're my witness, everybody. (I'm going to hold you to that, Lar...)

Simpsonize Yourself

As always, I will be waiting for weeks and weeks (and weeks!) to hit the movie theaters to see the new Simpsons movie. But that hasn't stopped me from enjoying the mania.

Have you created your Simpson likeness yet? You've got just to see it for yourself at the official Simpsons Movie Web site...you can either build a character in your likeness or even upload a photo and let the bizarre Web powers-that-be interpret your image and transform yourself into one of Springfield's own.

How I Spent My Thursday Afternoon

I never dreamt when the week started that I'd be hanging out in the media room in Celebration, Florida, waiting to meet with two Buccaneer players for an interview. But the opportunity afforded itself to me.

And this afternoon, I got the chance to meet up with these two nice fellas - RB Cadillac Williams

and TE Alex Smith.
They were cordial and obliging. The experience was a bit surreal, though some of the logistics made it far more challenging than it needed to be...but that's another story for another day and probably one for me to keep offline.

But they gave this scared, tentative interviewer their time and attention, and for that, this lady is very appreciative.

(And, no, I didn't mention that I had never drafted either one of them before in fantasy football and most likely wouldn't, but you never know...they may have just moved up their respective draft lists a few spots!)

Emmy Time

Okay, I'm not usually happy with all of the nominations for any of my favorite awards ceremonies so why should this year be any different for the Emmys?

This year's nominations were announced earlier this morning and though I'm happy to see certain inclusions, I'm a little disappointed about some talented people who were overlooked.

Some Nice Surprises
Okay, I'll admit it: I was pleasantly surprised to see Kevin Dillon (Drama) nominated for his supporting work in Entourage. Jeremy Piven is always acknowledged (and rightly so) but Dillon just gets better every season and I thought the nomination was a much-needed nod his way.
And I am thrilled to see 30Rock get some much-deserved recognition for a terrifc debut season. Alec Baldwin, Tina Fey and the show itself were all recognized in the top categories and that is terrific. I'm convinced that Tina Fey truly is this era's Mary Tyler Moore. She's really quite good, very funny and an unexpected refreshing performer in prime-time.

And of course my trusted favorites like The Office, The Sopranos, House and Heroes were all recognized in different ways... and this is all good.

But then there was some missteps.

Some Not-so-nice Surprises
24, one of the best dramas on TV, was noticeably left off of the list of best dramas - but Boston Legal which, even good friends who love it tell me is more humor and fluff than serious drama, makes the list. Are they nuts?

James Gandolfini and Edie Falco, king and queen of The Sopranos, earn nominations and well-deserved, but Lorraine Braco gets a nod for barely being on screen all season? Yes, her final appearance was a tremendous scene but the rest of the year she was inexplicably missing or irrelevant. Now Hayden Panettiere as the lovable, indestructible Claire from Heroes would have been a nice touch. Or any of the three wives from Big Love? They're terrific!

And where's a supporting actor nod to Steve Schirripa as Bobby Bacala? This would have been such a wonderful inclusion. As an actor, he really emerged as quite a talent in the last season and his character was finally fleshed out. Does William Shatner hamming it up on-camera in Boston Legal really warrant a nomination? Or Terry O'Quinn as the same ole Locke on Lost? He was intriguing in season one but even my hubby who still watches the show (not sure why) agrees that he doesn't deserve the recognition for this season. (Season one, maybe...)

Tony Shalhoub in Monk - is it really necessary to nominate this guy EVERY year? Yeah, he's strangely freakish about germs and bizarrely clean...we get it. Enough already! What about Adrian Grenier from Entourage? How about John Krasinski on The Office?

Best Reality Show Competition - and no Survivor?! Are you kidding? This past season was great... terrific competitors, some real characters and a fascinating setting. Sure, Amazing Race will probably win as always but it should at least be nominated!

Oh well, if they had just asked me, I could have straightened out everything beforehand.

Sigh.

Harvey Birdman is leaving us...sniffle-sniffle...for good?

Here's the latest departure news on the finest feathered legal eagle this side of Toonland...

A New Course for the Kuhns

The place: MacDill Air Force Base.
The course: Bay Palms - South Course (aka the course with lots of water). Oy.

I've never had to present my driver's license, proof of insurance card and car registration just to get to the golf course. The men at the gate scared me. Am I on one of their lists? Do they have me flagged as a veggie-espousing, ACLU card-carrying, peace-preaching, animal rights activist liberal nut job? Not that this would be far off, but will they let me play golf here anyway???

This weekend, Team Lucky 13 who participated recently in an Apollo Beach Golf Tournament and placed - um, well, LAST - reunited for more serious golf action.

Larry and Josh...

Matt and I... We were ready to tackle those links. And they (and their infamous resident wildlife) were ready to tackle us.
The view was nice though the ominous weather wasn't.

After 5 holes, we were holed up in shelter with total strangers.

We waited it out and all looked perfect for the rest of the day.
Or so we thought...until fourteen when clouds now surrounded us everywhere overhead. This shot from Matt pretty much says it all.

We didn't actually get to finish the game, but we started and that's all that matters.

There's always next time.

Friday Family Fun

The weekend started off with a little family fun Friday night - a housewarming get-together for Linda, my stepson's mom, and boyfriend Will.

It was also a great chance for everyone to get together before the wedding - just a little over 2 months away. Misty and Derek, the spotlight couple, don't seem too stressed about it yet...

Okay, maybe a little! :)

It was so fun to watch Deacon interact with his great-grandma Lillian.

Deacon was animated as always.

He is quite the showman. Brandon and Tiffany joined the festivities after a long sun-burned day at the Warped Tour.

Now, this group knows how to have a good time...

This way to the party!

Body Bucks

Ever wonder what your body would be worth if donated to science? Me neither. But now you can find out...

This is absolutely one of the weirdest links I've ever seen. Check out your value on the Cadaver Calculator. My favorite pop culture blog Pop Candy pointed me in its direction.

Enjoy (if you can)... and good luck!

Hiatus No More

Okay, I'll admit it. Much like my fitness regimen, I've fallen off the blogging wagon a bit, but I'm hopping back on...

I won't be reading the final Harry Potter this upcoming weekend. I won't be tinkering with my IPhone (that I don't have). And I definitely won't be checking out Chuck and Larry at theaters...

I will be blogging. And when I'm not blogging, I'll be thinking about blogging.

I promise.
I'll be a good blogger.

Starting tomorrow.

I'm Fired Up!

I don't get it.

We have a law that I thought made fireworks illegal. I thought our recent drought even caused some local agency to issue a ban on fireworks.

Yet, any schmoe can go down to the big tent and buy their stacks and stacks of toy dynamite and blow up the neighborhood as long as they say it's to get rid of that pesky squirrel. What an absolute joke.

Then, stories like this emerge...and I wonder if my husband and I are the only sane ones in the place.

Even the professionals can't get it right apparently!

Go, Speed Painter, Go!

Have you seen this super speedy paint jam of Lady Liberty caught live? Be sure to turn up the volume for a little Hendrix.

It's quite cool. You've just got to check it out...
Happy 4th of July, everybody!

When It Says Libby, Libby, Libby - on the Label, Label, Label...

Well, well, well.

Is it possible that Big W has stepped into a new pile of mess again already?

Lewis Libby. Possibly a pardon? Sigh. I might have to send him a thank you note personally come election day.

I wasn't around during the Watergate scandal --- okay, correct that...I was around but I was teething or soiling my drawers at the time --- but something tells me that this won't be the last embarassing whoopsie-daisy that the Bush GOB (good ole boys) will have to justify.

Good luck with that.

Behold: Mr. Roboto 2007

This is really clever. Found this on my favorite pop culture blog site Pop Candy... a fan of "The Office" (only the funniest show on TV these days) has put together a hilarious montage in tribute to the world's greatest boss Michael Scott (well, according to him) with a little help from Styx.

Enjoy!

Did They Really Do That?

Oh my gosh...

Are the creators making a statement here? Hmmm...
